One of my mates suggested that my shortest commute may be along the beach as i live on the coast, is this crazy talk or has anyone actually tried the mtb along the sand???

Apart from being hard work, I assume there may be a promenade/cycle path, the sand in your drive train will wreck any system in the shortest time ever. SAND IS EVIL TO MOVING PARTS and you can almost never get rid of it

It's easier if you stay on the edge of the water were the sand is wet, but it just adds salt to the bike aswell as the sand, not reccomended.^_^

yep, not only do you have a abrasive wearing down your parts you are helping the process by splashing corrosive water!!! better buy a boat if you want to take the short cut.

Tried it a few times. Loose sand sucks. Even 2.25's cut into it like butter. Lots of spinning the back wheel and going nowhere. The biggest issue I had was sand getting into the front mech preventing me from switching rings once I got out of the shite.

Hard packed sand next to the waters edge is pretty cool though. You can get a fair rate of knots up and it looks pretty deadly too.

Just make sure to wash, rinse, repeat.
