Had a new wheel fitted last Sat because the hub thingy was knackered.

1st degree ..... the tyre (my own conti) was not blown up to my requirements so pumped it up Monday. Within half an hour pssssssssssssss. Looked like a pinch P in a cheap innie.

Fitted a nice new conti tube BUT I did find some swarf through the tyre.

2nd degree ..... Tonight I had the pssssssssss coming home, fixed at roadside after nearly throwing the bike in the road.

3rd degree ...... Get on the drive, and again .... pssssssssssssssss :evil:

4th degree ..... found the P and fixed it. Fitted in, admittedly in a very bad temper. Pumped up and ... nothing, zilch. 2 more Ps.:evil::biggrin:

All in the same wheel. Is in bad luck or is there a problem? Have checked the tyre and wheel and can't see anything.

I have now fitted another conti very calmly, which is, at the moment, staying up.

Should I a) take a chill pill, it's just bad luck or B) go stropping off to the LBS (who I do try and support but seem to be getting really shite)?

Oh, and sorry for the rant

Remove tyre and check rim tape for protruding spokes. Check for swarf and examine the tyre for glass or thorns.....

Bad run that - I'd not recommend throwing the bike though...... too expensive.....

Hi guys

Have checked the tyre and the wheel - I can't see anything. The new inner I fitted last night is holding up - at the moment, haven't had my balast on the saddle yet

Crackle - yes, forgot to follow up. It was the hub thingy (that the sprocket attaches to) that had gone.

Will see how it goes ... but daddykins is on standyby to sort it all out awwwww

Sometimes you can get a flake of glass in the tyre that you can't see or feel but it will puncture the inner tube under load. You have to examine the tyre very carefully. If you remember the orientation of the inner and don't move the tyre on the rim when the tub is out you can work out roughly where on the tyre the puincture happened. (if it's on the inside radius of the tube it's a spoke protuding or a crack in the rim tape).

Where did the swarf come from? Have they drilled the rim out to fit a car type valve to a rim designed for Presta?
