I was watching a chap struggling to go up hill bouncing along on his full suspension MTBso but also I was thinking good for him for getting out there and having a go!

Eventually he ran out of steam, stopped, got off and sparked up a ciggy. FFS that's not gonna help.

I was riding back home from a hilly ride in the Pennines a couple of weeks ago. Saw a guy on a road bike wearing lycra stopped at the side of the road. I slowed to see if he needed anything but as I drew level with him noticed he was lighting a cigarette. :headshake:

On our regular social ride (aimed at new/returning cyclists & families) we had a chap that was wheezing away right from the start. We stopped after about 5 miles (40 mins or so) and he was quick to roll a cigarette! As soon as we started riding again he was wheezing away once more!

I saw Peter Post light one up in his track-side cabin during a Skol Six at Wembly. Lots of six day riders used to smoke as they claimed it helped them get used to the atmosphere inside a smoky velodrome.

'Saw a chap on a BSO t'other day smoking a fag and using a mobile phone!'

Multi tasking eh!

Ah I remember back in the day (approx. 19 months ago), riding up a local steep hill was often cut short to get my breath back with a ciggy.

Been a non-smoker for a year now. I can get up said hill in no time, no problem.

Looking at it, bicycles and cigarettes just don't go together. Like roast pork and ice cream.
