Yeah, when I saw it on the TV I just assumed he was okay and watched the rest of the race. Felt very sorry for Stybar getting hit in the face by a camera that a fan thrust out. Thought he had a good chance for a podium. You"ve gotta be mad to ride that race.

What would be the best way to deal with a situation like that? Do you hit the breaks and do what he did and try miss it by vearing left or right, pop a wheelie and hope you'll bounce backwards, or do you just go straight on and hope for the best?

No, you have to be paid and do your job, and the majority of the peloton who are classics rather than stage race riders want to do it at least once in a career, simply for the challenge, experience, and the fact you may get lucky! It's not so different from RVV, there are plenty of difficulties there as well, pave and narrow roads, opportunities to fall off everywhere, then of course Amstel, tiny roads, street furniture, traffic calming...all part of the job.
