As long as I breathe, I attack.
Went for a spin today, maybe 35 miles with a nasty crosswind which at points blew me into the middle of the road.

The last 5 miles i had back ache and every part of my legs was aching.

I had had a sunday dinner 2 hours before and taken 1 bottle of water and 1 bottle of energy drink which i used both of in the ride despite taking it easy i was in pain.Last week i went for a longer ride and felt fine .
I have a 73 mile sportive planned for the end of the month and i just hope i can manage it as at the moment it does not look good.

EDIT

Here is a link to my bike fit help as i found out my seat height was too high , go one ridicule and inform please!

Were the winds gusty? I always find I burn out quicker if its not a steady wind.

I went for a ride yesterday morning.. only managed 10 max as I too struggled with my back, and my knee is playing up again.

If you've got the sportive so soon then perhaps some turbo work on the bad days?

You will do it .Much harder riding on your own ,Strong winds take it out of you as well.

Make sure you rest upfor several days prior to the sportive and you will surprise yourself.

I have not got a turbo , i have 20 miles a day commuting though .....

Yes the winds were blowing all over and i was having to rise leaning against the wind trying to anticipate gusts.

Stopped too check a fellow cyclist was ok at the side of the road, he a a full on carbon with campag super record , i am jealous? maybe but i would like to see him stick panniers on it for the rest of the week

Yes but you are likely to find yourself going well later on in the year, whilst the wind is taking it out of you at the moment its also building up fitness.

That might have a lot to do with it.

Heavy meal + exercise often doesn't go down well.

Due to family commitments that's the way it fitted into my day, i did feel better the last long ride when i had had a pizza late then snacked in the morning .
Is this the way to go?
I have only just ramped up my mileage and ideally i would have liked a bit longer to train but the start is only 3 miles from my house.

Keep the meals light. A heavy meal takes a lot to digest, I would never cycle after a big meal.

I did do it on a different bike....

My weekend bike ( virtuosso ) was off the road waiting for a new cassette so i used my carrera TDF with a charge spoon saddle, i found it to be a harsher ride .
I know the tdf is 6061 and the virtuosso is 7005 , both are set up the same although i do find i am more prone to back ache on the tdf.

Frame geometry, too, can absorb some of the road shock, as can different tyres even if they're the same size.

I use an SKS gel saddle as I find that rather comfortable. I prefer the "split at the back" saddles to the all in one peice, if you get me.

Yesterday I foolishly set off westward for a flat 20 miles. Coming back into the wind I remember looking down at the computer and seeing I was pegged at a speed between 9 and 11 mph and that was pushing it. Got out on the bike today and found I had no legs whatsoever. Yesterday's return journey appears to have untethered my mojo and blown it somewhere into the mid-Atlantic.
