Got my clipless shoes last thursday, today had my first fall. My fault for forgetting iwas clipped in, i was too busy concentrating on the traffic that was squeezing me. I was just coming alongside some 4x4 and the gap was getting narrower, i could have avoided the fall by clipping out or waiting behind the car. I will just put it down as a learning experience.

I have a nice grazed calf and a cut on my knee but apart from that i am ok. Feel like a proper cyclist now  . The guy in the shop did tell me i would fall.

Every time I read one of these posts I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach - "Oh crap, I'm going over!"

Been using them myself for a couple of months now. A few 'moments' but none for the past month! Still very wary though when going through slow traffic and approaching roundabouts/junctions.

Hoho, I went over after 10 mins whilst coming to a stop to adjust the cleat position and somehow then forgetting that I was clipped in  doh

Pleased to say that was 5 years ago and not done it again

Oh gods I remember my first hour on SPD's More off than on if I recall and one nasty fall. After that it clicked and all was ok
Congratulations for lasting so long before falling. I went over after three minutes!

Had a half off today as I negotiated some barriers, nice chunk out of left ankle as it cracked the pedal. Didn't go to ground thankfully.

My first fall was on my second or third ride. I was coming to a stop at a junction, twisted my foot to unclick and realised that the cleat wasn't screwed in tightly enough and wasn't turning with my foot. Not having my brain fully engaged at the time it didn't occur to me to try the other foot! So I gracefully collapsed to a grass verge on the side of the road. Fortunately I was on my own and there were no cars around to enjoy the spectacle.

I went from flats to cages without a hastle. I assume cages to clipless is a bigger change?

Well, its a change for the better, despite the stories we all have about clipless 'moments'. I wouldn't go back now and would argue they are safer.

I was hesitant initially because of threads like this, here and on other forums. I delayed switching because of it. Truth is, yes, you'll have your own wobbly moments, but you'll wish you had switched sooner.

Oh, I will be switching.

Just need to find the right shoes and wait till payday!

I was just wondering how much more difficult the transitions are between flat to cage and cage to clipless.

It gives the car drivers a chuckle. The simple fall offs are not that bad. The 20mph+ face dives are a little harder to deal with
