Went over my handlebars for the first time last week – my fault, made a mistake and paid for it, a lesson learnt.

Me and the bike (Cannondale Caadx 105) had a few bruises – took it to Edinburgh Bicycle Coop in Manchester.
Was expecting to have to pay for my lesson, they checked it over, said what they thought might need doing.
Wheels needed truing, brakes, putting back on (front one was hanging off) gears weren't changing properly, one brake lever was now twisted round – oh dear!

Week later – £21.99p – Either they're really bad at adding up, or it was a bargain. So a very public thank you to the staff at EBC.

(They did advise me not to mention how or where my crash happened, as it was akin to Donald Campbell meeting his maker sailing a pedalo round Platt Fields boating lake).

They're good aren't they.

I rang around a few shops for getting my Alfine hub serviced - stripped, cleaned and regreased. Firstly, many LBSs didn't know how to do this. Those that did, had never done this but only knew in theory. Their quotes ranged from £30 to £50.

EBC said they have an Alfine qualified mechanic. Not only will they do all the above but also replace the bearings and warranty any work for 12 months - £25

Bargain.

Go on! You're dying to spill the beans!

It was on the very flat, very straight Tissington Trail in Derbyshire.
I was going way to fast, thought I'd overtake by leaving the trail and going on the grass – oops!

The couple I was about to overtake thought I'd fallen out of a tree as they just saw me land in front of them sans bike.
Once I realised I's survived, I couldn't stop laughing, so they did suspect concussion.

The bloke did comment how light the bike was, which I thought was a very blokeish thing to do – he asked me what cyclocross was, so I explained and said I didn't do it, cos you had to be a bit mad, he did give me a "No s**** Sherlock kind of look at that point.

But once again thanks to EBC.
