yesterday whilst at Cean Locks (Somerset) met a young amercian chap from Texas who is on a 4 month tour of Europe.

We spoke briefly about his bicycle which was a Surly Long Tucker?? Never heard of Surley before,is it Americain?

His machine looked good and he was just breaking in his Brooks saddle.

My eyes were drawn to what I can only describe as an old Sanyo style Dynamo.Running on the main tread of the tyre .Its location was behind the B/B? Have not seen one of those for years.

I believe he must have been camping with the amount of kit with him.

I wondered if he was going to camp wild as it was dusk.

He looked like he knew what he was doing.

I wished him safe journey and a part of me wished I was going on my own Tour.

Godspeed young Amercian, nice speaking with you :hello:

Are you sure he wasn't rustling steers?

Surly is an American make that you can't really get here. I've seen 1 advert for them in Cycling Plus a few months back. They are built like tanks though, from what I gather, probably 50% of the trip reports I read on CrazyGuyOnABike are on them

Waiting for the great leap forward

I got mine from Leisure Lakes in Wolverhampton, brilliant bike.

The plan for the winter ice and snow is a Surly Pugsley with 4" Large Marge tyres running at 10 PSI !

been trying to justify a pugsley myself, they look such good fun.

their new one, the moonlander, takes even big tyres than the pugsley!
