I currently have Tektro R538's on my commute road bike and the braking performance is ok, but I'm certain could be improved.

So I wondered if I fitted new cartidges / pads, this would be achieved?

They are controlled by Campag Veloce ergo levers at present...

Advice/ suggestions would be welcome.

Alternatively - would it make more sense to change the brakes to ones that would work with my Campag levers, and provide much better braking?

I've read about the quality of the Shimano 650 set - maybe they'd be better - but would they work with Campag levers?

Anyway,,,,

I've not been that impressed by Tektro's stock pads, fwiw.

Sticking in a pair of Kool Stop Salmon, or Fibrax Xtreme will cost about £7, and is worth a go before looking at changing your calipers, imo.

I use kool stop pads in my Tektro R538's make sure you get the shimano inserts, then you just need to replace the pads and not the block
