TDF Colours?

Not the jerseys, the numbers.

Why are the numbers a different colour, some are white background, some are yellow?

Probably being thick but........

Apparently some teams agreed to wear yellow helmets for the leading team like Sky did,however Nissan radioshack didnt hence the yellow background numbers instead

Black numbers on yellow background is for the team with the fastest 3 riders if I heard correctly from the tv commentary a couple of days ago

Red number is the combativity award

black numbers on yellow backgrounds are for the leaders of the 'team' classification - which currently (at the time of writing) is Leopard/Trek/Nissan/Radioshack, or whatever they're called these days....

And talking of numbers, how come we haven't seen number 13? The producer likes to focus in on this to give the commentators the opportunity to tell us how that rider is given special dispensation to be the only person in the Tour able to put the number on upside down. I don't think I've seen that so far this year.

Number 13 is Tony Gallopin (RSNT), just so you can keep an eye out.
Perhaps he's not superstitious, and wears it right way up?
