Taping bars with bar end shifters

I have picked up some bar end shifters for my mtb to drop conversion and i am stumped at how to start the tape wrapping as the shifter body goes into the end of the bars so i am guessing you cant put the tape in the end as normal .
Would you just try to wrap it neatly around the end and trim and tape like the top end ?

Cut an angle on the tape and start at the shifter . The second loop of tape will catch the angled cut and hold it in place while you start to spiral the tape along the bars . Thats how its done on my TT bars .

If you can't trap some tape inside the bar end, why not tape it on then start wrapping?

I never tuck the tape between bar and end plug and it's never unwrapped, do as Cuchilo suggested.

Thanks all,it was how I thought you would do it but some times you just need confirmation that your not missing the obvious.
