hi guys, does anyone know what condition the surfaces are like roughly from pontypridd to Cardiff, are they suitable for a road bike with good puncture resistance tyres?

It's a while since I did it but as long as you don't take the high route near Castell Coch then I think you should be fine (as long as you the anti-chav tyres..... some bits of that path sparkled as if spread with diamonds the last time I did it  ).

Surface is fine from Ponty down to cardiff.there's a bit of a step under a road bridge near Gabalfa to watchh for but its obvious. Biggest hazard. Is walkers and dogs.I do Merthyr to Cdf on 23c tyres

Not sure where the access from Treforest is. Have a pootle around and you will probably see the blue route 8 signs. If not the trail goes by the gate into Ynys Angharad Park in Ponty you could go south from there and see where the exit to Treforest goes.

i ride down from ponty to cardiff regularly on my road bike with race wheels and 23mm race tires.

they have recently put new tarmac on the section from the crem in ponty to nantgarw (where the hill goeas up to caerphilly)

and the rst of it is all road or tarmac.

you will have to slow after tongwynlais down to cardiff because of walkers, dogs and novice riders. but as i say

i would expect no problems with skinny road bike wheels.
