I'm assuming there will be some kind of rolling road closures for the T of B. Does anynody have any idea how long before race passes by it is before they close the road?

I'm thinking of the stage in Cumbria and Shap Fell in particular as planning to be there to watch.

I have emailed Cumbria County Council but they haven't bothered to reply

Not sure why the council would know much, try asking the police

if you go here you can download a pdf of all the stages and what roads are closed etc, if i recall most are rolling road blocks 15 minutes before the race is due to pass through that area,

Just got a tweet from the TOB directing me here http://www.tourofbritain.com/_ns_news/default.asp?news_id=325

there is this bit

The Tour of Britain uses a system of rolling road closures along its route, put in place by the highly trained police motorcycle escort group and civilian National Escort Group motorcycle marshalls.
Expect the roads to be closed approximately 10 to 15 minutes ahead of the first rider, and then to re-open again once the final vehicle in the race convoy has gone past. To find out when The Tour is due to arrive at your chosen viewing spot, please download the Race Manual for detailed ETAs. If travelling by car, we would recommend arriving at your spectating location a minimum of 30-minutes before the race is due to pass

It's a bit more complicated than that...
How early should one turn up to get a reasonable place at the finish of a stage? Guildford High Street is within easy walking distance of our flat, and since ITV4 are only covering the last hour and a bit of the closing stage live (which seems daft, but there you go) we might as well be on the final climb.

Looking at the race schedules there's some sort of a hill-climb competition going on as well as the two passes of the main tour, but I can't find anything else about them. And there's supposed to be a big screen at the finish, but again there's nothing I can find about where it's going to be.

Thanks for the link , I was hoping to have a day out on the coast at Thorpeness tomorrow and as the race passes through just after 11, if we get there for 10.30 we should be able to park, watch the race clatter through and spend the rest of the day on the beach . Should be good!
