A bit off topic, I know, but after doing my London to Paris ride last month and realising that I've completed all my goals for running and cycling so far, I've decided it's time to learn to swim, so that I might be able to do a Triathlon next year.

Does anyone know of any good resources for learning to swim? And any forums that are as good as this one?

Most pools offer lessons for adults, probably the best place to start. They'll also teach you the correct technique! I don't think it's something you should just try to do on your own

If I am anything to go by, most leisure swimmers who learnt as children have appalling technique!

@James Ots I got a tri coach for my triathlon training; I booked a set of 10 sessions through the local leisure centre.

Like @vickster has stated, my swimming technique was described as "swimming like a dying whale" even though I thought it was alright.

In the end I did 6 of the session but my technique's much improved and I swim much faster but easier.

I didn't get the impression the OP can swim at all

Myself, I can get from one end of a pool with a minimal amount of style...i.e. None

Arggggghhhh i'm not on my own then? when we go swimming Mrs V says something like... "You look after Little-un and I'll do a few lengths she comes back after about 30 lengths I then do the same and manage half a length before I'm flaked out and seeing if i can touch the bottom and walk back........ but a couple of mates who know I cycle and (occasionally) run have suggested joining them on a mini triathalon.... I'm thinking about lessons as well!!!!

About twenty years ago I could just about splash my was from one end of the pool to the other. I started teaching myself to swim a couple of weeks ago, and I'm at least starting to like going to the pool and being in the water. I can float and do a flutter kick and a sort of freestyle stroke and breathe out underwater. I just can't breathe in while swimming, so I have to stop and put my feet down when I need to! Once I can manage to swim from one end to the other without stopping then I think I'll get some lessons so I can learn proper technique before I get too good at doing it my own way. A triathlon seems rather ambitious when I can't do a single length yet, but it gives me something to aim at!

This forum can be quite encouraging when you see what level people started out at and where they've got to, so I was hoping to find a swimming or triathlon forum of the same quality.
