Can I replace my Mavic CXP22's from Allez 8 sp triple with my Mavic Aksiums from my 10 sp Boardman Road Team by putting 8 sp cassette on?

Yes, providing both use the same manufacturer freehub, I.e. Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo. You may also need to add/remove a 1 or 2mm spacer going from 10 to 8 speed. If the cassette wiggles when you tighten the locknut then you need a spacer.

So when i remove the 10sp cassette, there should be a thin spacer left behind which should be removed?

Yes, IIRC the 10sp cassette is narrower (and therefore needs the spacer) so you can remove it when going to 8sp. Do the locknut up without the spacer and see if it wiggles
