Am I correct in thinking that if I change a 52/39 chainset for a 50/34 the only thing I will have to do is shorten the chain length?

It also depends on what cassette and rear mech you have, because the wrap range is increased with a 50/34. You might be able to get away with just adjusting the B screw though.

Wait up,you'll need a new crank as well. The bolt circle diameter is different.
