Basically I have a bit of a conundrum and want some advice?

Im currently riding a Cinelli Columbus SLX New, it has Mavic rims and a campag chainset, I had no idea that this was even a decent a bike as I bought it for £140.00 from an old fella who’s missus stopped him from riding it.

Anyway I took it in to get serviced on Saturday and the guy in my lbs was all over the bike, he told me that the frame is a classic and the brand new copy version is worth 1500 quid, he showed me my bike on ebay for sale for $3000 dollars, basically as im using the bike everyday for commuting and then a social ride at the weekend im wearing it down the whole time. I cant do the bike any justice at all and to be honest would be happy to get rid of it and replace it with a good road bike I can wear down?

What do you think I should do? Im completely lost?

I think you should give it to a deserving cause.

Get yourself a cheap commuter bike and then sit and look at it for a few weeks while you decide what to do!

If the couple are pensioners perhaps it would be an idea to share the windfall with them? You would still have a decent amount towards a new road bike and they might find the money very useful or perhaps get holiday or similar?

I realise I'm jumping to conclusons on their age but this was just the way is struck me.

Personally I wouldn't feel too guilty, it's all business. I'm sure he's very happy with what he got for it. If you're selling second hand you should try to get an idea of what something is worth first. Or am I just being a heartless business student?

I'd probably sell it. For £1500 you could get a nice road bike with good accessories and still have £500-800 left over.

If it was me I'd get myself a cheaper commuting/weekend bike I didn't mind using in all weathers and I'd keep the bike for the good weather.
You might not think you're doing it justice but if riding it gives you enjoyment you are. You'll get a few quid selling the bike but you won't buy one again for that money and if you regret selling it, it's tough!

Depends where you get your pleasure. Do you feel great about getting such a fantastic bike at such a low price? Will you get the same amount of pleasure from the cash from its sale and the happy memories?

If I got a £1500 bike for £140 I'd be chuffed to bits and if it's a good bike use it. Don't see the point if selling something good to buy something not as good. Just my opinion.

I dunno... purists will hate me for this but I had a Harry Hall in Columbus SLX. It was a respectable bike but stiff thanks to the old-fashioned frame design. When I finally realised my dream of trying a carbon sportiff bike I could see that the two were miles apart in terms of weight and comfort. I sold the HH for £400, not bad considering I'd paid £150 for it and spent another £250 on upgrades!
