i am servicing my forks and require different weight oils. is there any difference in the oils should I be buying proper quality bike oils or will motor factor oils be suitable i have read conflicting reports and I am unsure as to what i should do.

I was told, and believe bike fork manufacturers simply mix/rebrand other's oils as their own since they couldn't possibly have their economy of scale, and in any case the oil in bicycle forks would have a far easier life than in pretty much any other engineering application.

I generally assess requirement from the specific fork service manual, then see which are similar from this chart, and acquire what is available from motor factor/online. Works a treat!
