On my new second hand Cannondale street prestige hybrid, it has a gator hiding front suspension. seems to work really really well. I note a turn to the left (centre of handle bars) seems to lock it or change the configuration. As a complete newcomer I'm confused when to use and when not. Clearly I realise if I'm travelling on rougher ground suspension is very useful. It is on road my question relates to; is there any advantage to me 'turning it off?'

Thanks

Certainly going up a road hill. You want to put all your energy into the climb - and a hill is likely to make you loose some of that 'bouncing' the front up and down - especially if you're grinding out of the saddle.

And there's no point in suspension if you're on the road and there's not much in the way of potholes about.
