Evening all.
I had a strange but rewarding ride out tonight. Its Friday and I really felt not physically up to going out on a bike ride. After working all week it catches up with you by Friday but my mind was telling me to get out there and get some miles in. The wind was blowing a rate of knots so I conceded no records would be broke tonight and that a nice easy enjoyable ride was the way to go. Around 7 miles into my ride I managed to find myself slap bang in the middle of the local cycling clubs 10 mile time trial event and watched helplessly as they flew past me every few minutes. As they went passed I would give chase to try and pace them ( at a safe distance away from them though ) but I was like an old dog trying to chase rabbits lol. When I hit the village there were a few spectators watching and they must of thought I was also competing. They were clapping and I even had a the few cameras pointing at me. Being that im a sad old git I took the glory and peddled as hard I could to make my self look authentic :-). By the time I got through the village I was Burnt out again and continued at my more sedate pace watching the time trialist go by. After 20 miles I finally arrived home and was amazed to see I had managed an average speed of 15.8 mph which is a personal best for me by a long way over that kind of distance. It was not down to slip streaming the other riders either. ( that would be totally disrespectful to them ,even if I could of done it lol ) There's been a couple of posts here about riders losing there 'mojo' and enthusiasm and tonight I could of easily fallen into that same trap but instead of sitting in front of the TV I pushed my self to make the effort and get some miles in and it turned out to be one of the best and most enjoyable ride out in weeks :-)
Please don't slate me though for ending up in the middle of a time trail course . It was on a public road and I kept well away from the competing cyclist. The last thing I would ever do would be to hinder them.
Johnny :-)
