Sunglasses, are polarising lenses worth it?

I'm off for a month of cycling in the sun soon, so have decided to get a pair of decent sunglasses.

Unfortunately the only pair I have found so far that fit well and look good are a pair of Oakley's, so I am resigned to selling an arm to pay for them. Question is, should I sell a leg as well and get them with polarising lenses, do you get much benefit from them?

My regular specs are Oakley reactolights and I've found that they are good here for the very changeable conditions, but abroad they'd almost always be dark so when I've been abroad I've stuck to normal sunglasses.

Thanks but I was asking about polarising lenses which supposedly reduce glare, rather than the 'transitions' type which lighten or darken according to the light conditions.

I have a pair of sunglases from ALPINA, they have three inter-changeable lenses. Clear, Orange and Brown. I tend to wear the orange most of the time as it reduces glare and you can still see when it goes cloudy.

The main advantage that I find with polarising lenses is that they cut down the glare from wet roads. They are not perfect though, you will still get some glare from standing water and shiny vehicles. One possible downside is that you sometimes see interference colours and patterns from windscreens but they don't bother me much.

Doh, my mistake. I forgot to say enjoy the break
BTW I think Dunfermline's summer was Saturday and Sunday, the Ochil's were beautiful to cycle through. Two days of sunshine at 5deg, and it'll probably blow a gale and pour for the rest of the month via a month of warm shunshine; its a hard choice

I think you might be right there, the weekend was very pleasant. Pity I had to spend most of it shopping for stuff for the holiday.

Still normal service has been resumed today weather wise.
