I've only had one cup of tea this morning and i'm not sure if i'm just having a total blond moment.
Had new set of pedals waiting to go on the bike all week and just sat down to do this and i think the treads on the pedals are the wrong way round.

Rather then force the issue and bugger up my crank ive stopped and going to seek wises people opinion.

Here is a picture of the pedals positioned as if you was sitting on the bike.

Here are closer pics of each pedal.

Here is a picture of the bottom of the pedal just to show they are not ambidextrous as such and can only be fit one way.

You can clearly see that on the left pedal is says CR-R and on the right pedal is says CR-L

am i missing something obvious ?

R is drive side, L is non-drive side. So the narrow end goes to the front of your foot. I know it seems counter intuitive with the design of them, but these are track pedals, so they are designed to have toe clips fitted and have a wide rear platform for when a track rider stamps down on them to accelerate. Hope this helps.

[EDIT] Just found this review on the Genetics website, not sure if it helps anymore, but it explains the design philosophy some more............

"These quill-style classic pedals - so-called because the cage swoops to a point on the underside reminiscent of a quill pen - were the pedal of choice prior to the arrival of clipless designs, and are now the pedal of choice for classic bikes and fixed gear community.
The Genetics aren't just a carbon copy of that style, though. As well as the mirror polished finish of the main body and the myriad of cage colours available, the design itself has a modern twist: essentially single sided ( the quill tab is there so you can flip them the right way up with your foot), the main body is scalloped to make for maximum foot contact with a flat-soled shoe. Genetic offers classic-styled double-strapped toe-clips designed specifically for these platforms for £14.99, with leather straps an extra £19.99. At 100g a pedal these are seriously lightweight and the fully sealed bearings have stood up to our wet British summer exceptionally well. They add that perfect finishing touch to a classic stlyed fixer, and at £30 are great value.
Lightweight, hard-wearing and classy - we like them.

Looks like you've got them the wrong way round on the photos. As above, the wider end goes at the back as you can see the tabs where toe straps would be located.

Ok have fitted them and installed the toe straps.
Everything fitted together just fine.
It still looks a bit odd to me, but lets see how she rides on the commute tommorow.

Ok Smokey...your sage advice wins again.

Just took it for a quick spin and everything feels solid.
I can get my feet in and out of the straps easily.
The pedals feel a little different under my feet, but they are much smaller pedals then the old one's.

Just a case of getting used to the new pedals methinks.

Cheers for taking the time to answer my posts today.

Happy days
