I regularly visit my dad in Seaford on a Sunday, and the couple of times I've cycled over there he's been kind enough to give me a lift most of the way back.
Cycling there is usually fine, and quite pleasant through Telscombe and Peacehaven, it's just coming back from the Ovingdean roundabout is a real nightmare as it seems the most inconsiderate and selfish people that exist come out.
Last time, I almost ran into a woman who, after coming up from the under-cliff pass at the marina, propped her bike up at the narrowest part of the cyclepath for miles around, thanks to the post she propped her bike on and roadworks encroaching from the other side, and then as I approached proceeded to step backwards and into the cyclepath without looking at all! Cue me clumsily coming to an abrupt halt and cursing under my breath in her general direction.
Following on from this, at the pier roundabout, I tried using an ambulance on a shout going into Madeira Drive to pull out from it, only to be tooted by a taxi that pulled out at the same time as me from Marine parade who wanted right of way.
As if to prove this wasn't a one-off this evening I had people that seemed oblivious to the cyclepath along Madeira Drive, and some right numpties coming up the Steine. The left lane was chocka with people going back to London, so I stayed in the right-hand lane from the Steine as I'd need to be in it anyway eventually. Boy I wish I hadn't - one idiot passing me to my right with inches to spare, and another chap tooting me and telling me to use the cyclelane, despite me maintaining +15mph all the way up, decidedly quick compared to the cars on my left.
I can't wait until I can get a road bike so I can keep up with traffic.
