I'm going on a 2 week tour in France in a couple of weeks, and was wanting to kit myself right. I used baggy waterproof overtrousers on my tour last year, and although they were ok, I wasn't particurly streamlined. A few people on my tour used no-rain leggings.

I purchased a pair of these - and on the label they state that they do a 'light' variety- presumably for summer use...but for the life of me, I can't find them on any website. I've even been on the Sportful website. The pair I've got might see me through - but I was thinking that the fleece liner might get a little hot - especially cycling in France! As the tour is 60/70 miles a day- I think I would need something - as it's no fun getting rained on for long periods of time. Can anyone enlighten me? Can you purchase 'summer' rainproof leggings?

These are the ones I've just bought...

thanks for any replies

don't think I'd bother. Lycra or similar gets wet but isn't horrible to wear wet and duly dries out again. I'd want something dry to change into when you get to destination or for the evening. I'm of similar persuasion for hillwalking other than full on winter conditions

ah thanks. Last year doing LEJOG I definitely needed something - as - although cycling in June, it was suprisingly cold. I would have suffered not having any waterproofing on my legs. Hopefully in France the temps might be a bit kinder - but I guess you can never quite tell!

that said, for hillwalking when it's really horrible and I'm driven to leggins I am very impressed by the Paramo ones - which are suprisingly comfy to wear as trousers with just long johns or maybe just pants on underneath. But they may be a bit flappy and chain-catching for the bike. You can get warmer bike tights or "knickers" I think the term is for the 3/4 length ones so not merely v thin ones sold

I should also add that you do more cycling than me - so whilst I stand by my advice I'm less well qualified than you are yourself. I'd still not bother with leggins in France in summer though
