Hi,

Just changed from SPD-SL to Speedplay Zero's.....after the initial set-up everything ok until I stepped off the bike, walking in these cleets are pretty imposible, it's like walking on ice. Can anyone suggest a suitably priced SPD or Speedplay specific shoe that you can walk in without a large stack height (possibly recessed) Note: SPD's require an additional adaptor! which adds another 4mm on stack height.
I've trawled the Internet and Racing shoes all appear flat! being an old timer there used to be a speed drill sole that you could recess the adaptors allowing you to change pedals without raising stack heights!

I've just upgraded from spd shoes on my road bike to Speedplay Light Action pedals. I bought Specialized BG comp shoes that are great with them. Walking though, as you say is not so good. You can buy cleat covers for speedplay cleats, they're called coffee shop cleat covers, and I found them cheapest at Evans, (still silly money for what they are though) but essential for me. They really should be supplied with the pedals.

No shoes will make a difference as the stack height is caused by the Speedplay cleats, (obviously!). Therefore whatever shoes you use will have the same problem. The 'cafe covers' help a bit in terms of grip, but if you need to walk regularly in you cycling shoes then Speedplay are not the best. FWIW I used my Lake CX236C shoes with my Zero's.

I've used SP Zero's Stainless for the past 3 years, and as a pedal system I think they are the best. Although I've just gone back to SPD-SL so both my bikes have the same set up, also SPD-SL are less expensive to maintain in terms of cleats and servicing.
