someone i know has a literally brand new trek 1000, which he is wanting to sell.

now, i already have a winte rbike and my racing bike, but could i use the trek for a bit of cyclo-x???

i have no interest of racing in the event, i just would like to ride it to improve my handling skills.

any thoughts?

thanks

you could but you would have to change the brakes/frame to accept different brakes as the treaded tyres you would need for cyclo X would not fit under the brakes that are currently on the bike. dual pullbrakes seem to be what are used.

also another difference i have noticed is that cyclo X have mountain bike like front chainset ratioe - like 34-48 - or something like that, which is quite a bit different to road bike ratios, although looking at pic of the trek it looks like it has a triple, which would probs mean you could get away with it

just my two pence worth

No, you really need canti-lever or V-brakes. The caliper brakes on the trek haven't got the clearance for larger knobbly tyres or mud.

Perhaps a cheap hybrid or even a MTB.
