Hi guys,

Pretty self explanitory as to what I'm searching for at the moment. I am reletively new to the whole area of cycling, so please go easy on me with the jargon. The primary use of this bike is to get around where I live which is a mix of badly maintained city and some off roading.

The ones I have found are mainly around the £1250 price point and 2016 models, but I'll leave it to you guys for the final call.
Lapierre 2016 X-Control 227
Trek Fuel EX 7 27.5 2016
Giant Anthem 27.5 3
Giant Trance 27.5 3

The few requirement that I'd like you to consider are:
Main colour to be black

Height being 5' 9"

This bike will be used pretty much daily, so something easy to maintain would be helpful.

Thanks

Sounds like a full suss isn't what you need but if you want one get one!

I'm a big fan of the Trance, but what suits me is neither here nor there in this case. That's a decent short list of competent machinery, so tou need to get out there and try them, see which you best like.

I must agree that a full squidger is perhaps not the ideal bike for your stated use, but if you must then you may find the Giants worth checking out first as the Maestro floating linkage system is excellent at reducing suspension bob while pedalling.

Can't really explain how necessary a full sus bike is around these part without some pictures.

The majority of stores aren't anywhere near me, so testing them in my area would be impossible.

If easily maintained is one of the prime requirements, I'd certainly weigh that against all the moving parts of a full suss. I'd think a decent hard tail would have less to service, a rigid fatbike even less. Ideally we'd really need to know on what conditions you are riding.
At the end of the day though, it's what makes you smile riding it

Yeah, a decent hardtail will cost you a lot less in initial buying and maintenance costs. Full squish are really only for people who regularly use them at trail centres or properly off road.

Consider also a Cyclocross bike, big grippy tyres for going over fields and bumps and potholes and you'll get places a shed load quicker than on a full susser.

there's bound to be a halfords near you somewhere, at least you would be able to see and touch and feel the different classes of bike.

It might be good for trail use, but perhaps not the ideal XC machine, XC being a racing discipline rather than a leisure pursuit.
