Sturmey Archer X-RD3 Loose.

After rides of about 20 or so miles the hub ends up loose with a wobbly wheel.

Each time the cone and lock washer and nut are tight to each other but the bearing is sloppy needing a turn or two on the cones to take up the slack.

What am I missing.

The hub was second hand, the seller said he adjusted it but never fitted it when he bought it second hand.

Any idea what it turned out to be? It might be useful to know in future.

There was a missing washer on the brake side between the locknut and the spacer to the cone nut. The washer is one with flats in to hole to stop it rotating. It seems every time I braked the whole assembly moves a tiny bit and slowley unscrews the cone and lock nuts together.

Just done 20+ miles on hills and it is still tight.
