Some help please, or SWMBO will insist that the pink folding thing goes on eBay

Basically I've got one of these, which lives in my car: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item43ab0ab4b3

It's a Universal Stowaway 3 folding bike with 3-speed Sturmey Archer hub gears. Except that it's got the exact same problem as the one in the eBay ad above; it only works in 2nd gear. 3rd gear slips and it won't adjust to 1st gear.

It might be a ladies folding bike, but I like it  so some advice on how to adjust the hub gears would be great.

Visit Sheldon Brown's site for full details and an alternative method but as a general rule, look at the axle nut on the drive side. It has a "window" in it. Through this window you will see the end of the axle. When the hub is in second gear, the square shoulders on the indicator rod should be level with the end of the axle. This is the correct position.

Note that this is dependent on the correct indicator rod being fitted as there were a number of different lengths. See Sheldon's alternative method if yours isn't correct.

as a sturmey nube i used the following advice from sheldon with success:

put the gear lever into first and tension the cable so that the little chain can only just be pulled away from the nut. if it can't, the cable's too tight, if too easy, too slack.

when it's right the hub should be silent in 1st, go tick tick in 2nd and louder still in 3rd.
