I have had my racing bike for 2 months now, really struggled to get it from the big front cog to the smaller one at the pedals.

Because it was awkward, i just left the gear on the smaller cog. I had the STI drop handle shifter gears.

After two months of frustration, I went to the LBS and explained the situation. He said to shift down, you need to click twice on the gears, did that and it was instant.

Just posting in case anyone else has the same problem, but i guess you wont be as stupid as me?

If you have to click twice to go down one ring on a double, then the gears are minsconfigured. Sounds like your gears are setup for a triple.

Hi, I bought my cross bike with the Tiagra groupset and only a double crank. My LBS guy also explained to me that I'd have to double-shift to change down to the bigger crank. I thought this was normal practice when only having a double (instead of a triple) crankset? ;)

The extra click is for trimming the front mech - first click moves it in a little, and the next will be to drop down to the smaller ring.

Fossy, I thought it was only Campy you could trim? On Sh*m*n* stuff IIRC the chain should move from large ring to small ring with one click of the sti, sounds like the limit screw (the one ontop of the front derailieur F/D) needs adjusting a tad.

The inside edge of the F/D cage should be 2mm from the chain, as a rough guide.
