Installed a new chainset and bb on the commuter and i am having front shifting issues
Went from hollowtech 2 to a fsa powerdrive ( fsa octalink basically ) with an 108 mm axle , now in the 2 smallest at the back and big at front i get chain rub on the FD outer plate , if i adjust it out any further the FD rubs on the crank arm .
Do i need a wider BB ?, i do have a 113 mm width in stock .

I think you have already correctly identified the solution. Chainline issue combined with a fairly 'tight' design of crankset (ie space between crank and chainring). The extra 5mm should not affect you (wrt Q factor).

First check distance from centre of seat tube to centre of chainwheels should be appox 44mm if not then you should consider changeing bottom bracket to correct the distance. As pointed out by raleighnut perhaps the front mech just requires adjustment.

Checked , its right.
Probably something stupid , chain tension wise i had to pull it tight with pliers then clamp to get it toshift up.

Easy option, pop to LBS with it and in 5 mins it will be sorted , sometimes life to short to spend time worrying and the older i get the less time i have for stress , i have enough in my life without making more .

turns out my FD is 9 speed not 10 speed hence the rubbing ......, proves how often i use them !

I run a10 speed Campag FM on a 9 speed rear mech.No problems with this set up unless I cross chain eg big front big rear

I use a 9 speed chain.No probs

The 10 speed FD are slightly wider apparantly , its when in in big/small ie the fastest 2 gears it rubs a bit.

"7-speed, 8-speed, 9-speed, 10-speed...
"Many front derailers are designated for some number of speeds in back. This is actually primarily a marketing distinction, not a functional one. Pretty much any front derailer will work with any modern chain system. It is true that the cages have gotten slightly narrower to match the narrower chains used on systems with more rear sprockets, but this is rarely a problem in practice."
"models designated for higher numbers of speeds may have slightly narrower cages , so they might be a bit more fussy in adjustment/trim when used with wider chains."

You have a 9sp FD. It is marginally wider (than 10sp FD) so should rub less. Think yours needs better adjustment and maybe trimming in use.

As you say , maybe i misheard if its slightly narrower i can adjust the FD so it can not rub but not be hitting the crank arms . same result , indeed .......
