Ok....I have permission to take off all the party from my mum's old mtb (they are reeeeally low spec i.e. hard plastic cranks...but have barely ever been used....)

So I have this frame knocking around (see attatchment) but I am unable to remove this cranset.....One side of the BB has been unscrewed, so I believe that the other crank should just pull out after undoing the bolt at the axel point... then the chainset can be pulled off, then the other side of the BB unscrewed.
Except it looks like a little bit of rust has hit home....and the axel which is rock hard refuses to be drilled out, hacksaw does nothing

Any ideas?

Have you tried using a crank puller?
When i swapped cranks on my mess about fixed, and put on ones from a crashed fixed, i had to use a crank puller and tap the cranks with a persuading device. Which soon got it off.

Yup, you won't shift a crank 9 times of 10 min on a square taper fit without a crank puller.

About a fiver from LBS. Don't be tempted to whack it with a hammer - you'll bugger the bottom bracket shell in short order.
