I know that many may say, "stick with 26inch wheels then, you're missing the point of 29ers...", BUT, please would anyone be able to tell me whether or not it is possible to buy any 29er wheels with a wider rim than the 27mm Sunn rims I have seen? The reasons, not only strength, but also the tyres won't crab off the rim when you try and do any side hops etc to miss objects/pick a line through technical bits, and the grip will be better too. Yes, I realise that 29inch wheels are pretty heavy for a start compared to their smaller cousins, but there must be plenty of heavier riders out there, who aren't racing and who would like to be able to ride some rocky stuff and even take a few airs whilst returning to base with true wheels. Any suggestions (except see my first sentence), gratefully received.

have a read of Jeff Jones site, I know he runs some pretty massive tyres on some of his builds, all of which are 29ers:-

I can't remember exactly where I read it on there, whether on main site or blog, but there was reference to a new wider rim.

Hey, thanks for that- those are (Larry David voice)- "pur-retty weird frames he has going on there". It' s a bit like the Salvador Dali melting watches meets Spaghetti Junction....

Therefore I deduce you can buy scaryily wide "steamroller-like" rims; the question is I just have to find the manufacturer. I think I'll pass on the powder-snow Arctic explorer-issue front tyre though.

Cheers
