"Strava detects devices with barometric altimeters and recognizes the data from that source. Since elevation data derived from a GPS signal is fairly inaccurate, Strava automatically corrects elevation derived from a GPS source by consulting elevation databases to determine the elevation at each point in the activity. "Bet the chap/ chapesses of the "silly Strava racing" thread know the answer

Anyone else find this approach silly? I'm fairly sure faulty barometric elevation data is the main source of all those annoying auto-generated phantom 4th cat segments - I don't think GPS elevation data can give this kind of glitch. I wish strava would just force topo map data correction for all rides."Strava detects devices with barometric altimeters and recognizes the data from that source. Thanks
I think it means, it uses the GPS co-ordinates to fetch the elevation data from a database. What? Did you actually understand the meaning of that? Chapeau
It works out how many cakes you have eaten based on how slow you went up the hillWhat? Did you actually understand the meaning of that? Chapeau
Got it!It works out how many cakes you have eaten based on how slow you went up the hill
Nope!! I took it to mean that some chap looks it up in a book, as GPS is useless, and then adds it up on his fingers and makes lots of money from masquerading as an app!!What? Did you actually understand the meaning of that? Chapeau
