Strava Auto-Pause Doesn't Work

Since I've returned to cycling I've noticed that the Strava "Auto-Pause" no-longer works on my mobile and so my average speeds are very low. This weekend I went for a ride with several friends and we compared results at the end of the ride. Since I'm the fastest in the group then I tend to race ahead and then wait for the rest at various junctions along the way. However my moving time is virtually the same as my elapsed time and so I end up with the lowest overall average speed out of the group.

Looking at the trace below (which is at one of my waiting points) it looks like I'm wandering about all over the place so my suspicion falls on my mobile's GPS receiver, just wondering if anyone else has similar problems trying to use the Strava "Auto-Pause".

Works fine on my HTC , have seen iphones do that though but don't know why , I once seen a friends strava who had stopped off at a neighbour of mine and it showed him in wandering about my garden and in my garage

I run strava with data switched off btw , seems to stop the gremlins and uses less battery power.

Even with a Garmin the average speed is lower on Strava, all to do with how they calculate the figures, has been mentioned on here a few times before.

Noticed that as well if I do a run with a mate who is using a Garmin to upload to Strava his average is usually lower than mine but distance is slightly further which should mean average better as he has covered more distance in same time as me .

I use a garmin 510 as soon as I save the ride it links to my phone and goes on garmin and strava while I'm putting the bike away far better than the 200 that I used to have

Daft question but is auto stop turned on in the settings? You can manually turn it on or off for both cycling and running. It works fine for me on the iPhone app btw, I don't even bother with the garmin much at all.

Incorrect. My 510 uploads to Garmin Connect and then auto-syncs to Strava. Aside from rounding to one decimal place, i.e. 18.42mph on Garmin and 18.4mph on Strava, it is exactly the same for me on all rides.

I'm waiting for a lot longer than 10s when I stop. Think I'll go back to using Endomondo for a while to see what happens.

Seems to work fine for me on my Samsung Galaxy S4. I only use it for running, and only stop if I need to cross a road - however at the start of the run when I hit "go" it immediately auto pauses and waits for movement, which is good as it gives me time to fiddle about getting the phone into my bag, lock my door and put my keys away!
