Last spring I changed my wife's tyres on her Dawes Discovery, from my experience I knew she'd never be able to take off and replace Marathon +'s so I put on a set of Schwalbe Land Cruisers, they would suit her trekking and towpath riding.

She's used this bike daily through last spring to autumn and since this April for her 3mile work commute. She's also done a York to Whitby trip and a 3 day Dutch tour. Her rear tyre was flat this morning, no problem, she used my old MTB and I set about fixing the flat.

As I popped the tyre off, I heard something fall, at the bottom of the tyre was a nut, an axle nut, "Strange" I thought "Where the hell did that come from"? Totally befuddled I inspected the inner tube and found an imprint, an axle nut imprint. And it all started to come back to me..................................last spring frantically searching the garage for the axle nut I'd only just removed.

Excellent!

It's a wonder it didn't cause a puncture.
A bit like the stories of surgeons leaving swabs and scissors inside people they've operated on.

EDIT
LOL - crossed post with smokeysmoo.

What make of inner tube was in there? I want a set!

 That's what I was thinking, looked for a name on them but nothing, they are the original tubes that came with the bike maybe 6/7 years ago! My good lady is pleased that the tyre is now mended, don't really see any point in letting on about the nut.
