Has anyone seen the below saddle clamp style before? I purchased a new one for SHMBO's bike but discovered this clamp, either im stupid of railed saddles do not attach, if so what would i be looking at as a replacement? Any saddle clamp?

I've had clamps like that before, they just convert the cheap post (like pictured) which would fit a cheap saddle only to a post that can take saddle rails and better saddles.

Edit you just have to rotate the two side plates so the opening is at the top to accept the saddle rails. Its hard to tell from the picture but other than tightening the plates up is there anything to stop the rails coming out? the one I had enclosed on top of the rails too, probably not needed but it gave me a sense of security.

New one on me. Have you got a more normal clamp?
If not, PM me your address - I'm sure I have one knocking about.
Should drop straight on.

I've got a horrible feeling that the U shaped piece of metal should be the other way up (so the closed end is at the top) and that rails are supposed to sit in the bottom (the top when inverted) of the U. In theory, when the bolt is tightened ,the saddle should stay in position.

I'd be very tempted to bin it and buy something like this. The diameter of the seat post should be stamped on the post, somewhere near the bottom.

Edit - I started to reply and then went off to do something else while others were replying!

Do NOT use this for a railed saddle. It will slip.

This clamp is designed for an older cheap saddle where there was a pair of ridges in the moulding reinforced by a metal plate.

This ^ is the right answer. I can recall seeing those saddles now Cunbelin mentions it.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't get a micro-adjust post in the right size (see here for example) but you do need to know the diameter in mm. If 1.1" = 28mm, then Decathlon do one that uses a shim. Alternatively, a slightly undersize post and a shim made from a coke can has been known to be used:whistle:
