Hi Guys,
Hope someone can help point me in the right direction, my old steely commuter hack has developed a strange panging noise from the front wheel, i'm guessing is the bearings but I replaced them about 500 miles ago and there is no wobble in the wheel and it spins freely with no noise..very strange.
I've also checked the spokes all seem fine...or could it be something to do with the headset as these are the only bearings on the bike I haven't yet replaced?
PS the noise stopped halfway through my ride???
I also checked the quick release skewer was tight with no play.

I had a similar thing with my front wheel when I went over rough bits of road. Eventually did trace it to a loose spoke.

I have checked the spokes and they all seem okay none are obviously loose, I know the hub on one side was a little scored when I changed the bearings a while back but it has been fine although when the wheel is spinning there is a small but noticeable notching feeling because of this, although its never caused this panging noise.
I have the Crud2 mudguards on they do make a chirping noise sometimes but a quick adjustment usually sorts this out.
Looks like I might have to strip the bearings out and re grease.

Took the wheel off, spokes were fine, removed the axil and re packed the bearing with grease, I think I will have to get some new wheels soon as one side of the bearings seem to be wearing faster than the other (the side that's slightly pitted) but the noise has now stopped.
