The 2 limit screws, not sure if thats the correct name but i mean the ones that limit the movement of the front derailleur,on my 105 triple keep getting stuck.

I took the derailleur off the bike a few months ago put it in the vice so i could lean on the screwdriver more, got them out cleaned everything then put them back in with a bit of waterproof grease. All worked lovely again.

Just tried to make a small adjustment and the inner one is stuck again  .

Any suggestions on what I should use on the threads ?Cant be arsed with having to take it off the bike repeatedly hopefully this time it will be a longer lasting fix. Also would better quality screws be available?

Try a couple of turns of PTFE tape from a plumbers' merchant. Seriously.

Yes, wot they said. But why are you needing to adjust the stop screws? Unless you change the chainset they shouldn't need touching. It's a common job for bike shop mechanics, resetting them to their original position after the owner has tried to use them to make an adjustment. Think of them as the buffers at the end of a train track, they're a stop, just that, there's nothing to adjust.

I do know what they do If there was never any need for adjustment they wouldnt be adjustable would they?

Not sure if the end of the screw wears a bit or the metal it contacts wears a bit but have had to adjust mine on the road bike twice now where as my hybrid which has done more miles I havent needed to.

PS I used a bit of PTFE as suggested by Gerry Attrick and greased the internal thread as well so hopefully should it ever need adjusting again it wont be seized .

Have you been regularly cleaning the mech during winter. Don't forget to apply some WD to the pivots and limit screws - Very easy to kill a front mech if you don't ever clean/lube it.

My mate has killed his 'less than 12 month old' XT front mech by doing nothing with it over winter....

Im not a fastidious bike cleaner but do clean and lube all the moving bits on the bike fairly regullarilly. The derailleur works fine across all 3 chainrings ,its the screw that stops it going too far out away from the bike I have needed to adjust a couple of times to stop the chain getting thrown off the end past the big ring.

All done now ,working nicely, hopefully wont need touching for a good while.
