A friend at work has had her saddle pinched twice in the last few months.
I told her she probably had a stalker who keeps them as trophies!

Anyway, what should she do? The only thing I could think of was a small cable lock that she could thread through the saddle rails and into the rear triangle. If it was short and tight enough she could leave it permanently attached.

The saddle isn't even a quick release one!

Do they leave the seat post in place ? If so then yes I think what you suggest is the only option

Bizarre that it has happened twice

Just the saddle ? or the seatpost too. Unfortunately the latter is very common, one urban myth seems to that its a perpetual thing, one scrote steals the original post/saddle, the victim then steals one as a replacement and so on and so. Or I suppose it could just be that the ned/ chav thinks its funny for the 30 secs after they steal it.

I've never felt that I was leaving a bike long enough or in a dodgy place to warrant one but I I were I think I would invest in a narrow kyprtoflex cable; I've got a thicker one for my front wheel.

I had this happen to me in Milan, so a trip to LBS and bought new saddle as well as small cable lock, which is permanently attached - I can't even remember where the key is to unlock it!

Saddle and seatpost.

I think the cable idea is a goer. I'll have a look for suitable ones for her.

these might be worth a look, a little neater than dangling a cablelock off the back of the bike. No idea if they any good, but this lot seem to like them:

Yep that was going to be my suggestion if the seatpost is going as well. I would also suggest finding somewhere different to leave the bike unattended.

It was from 2 unrelated locations.
