so, as title says, im still to big for an out and out road bike. so, have opted for a tourer or cyclocross. i was just wondering on how the performance differs from each other. oh, and that of my current mtb.

cheers Gary

In my exhaustive study it was 1.9 mph.

It's more for energy expended / distance covered. More than actual speed.
Thanks for the replies

My understanding is that Tourer/Cyclo are much closer to road bikes in performace/energy requirement than an mtb.

I can think of a few tests - Norm of this forum and that doctor from one of the medical journels - and there is virtually no discernible difference for the average Joe.

I say get on your bike and enjoy. Stop worrying about stuff that don't matter.

My brother changed his wheels and tyres on his cyclocross and apart from the lower gearing (which only really mattered going downhill and was probably an advantage going uphill and undulating courses) its just as good if not better than many roadies, its certainly more versatile.
