I decided to get back in cycling a couple of months ago and treated myself to a super new bike.

The saddle is a Brooks and very painful but I decided to stick with it for a while.
I've not ridden now for nearly 3 weeks but have an aching pain in the bum when I sit down.
It's not sore on the surface, more internal, as if my sit bones are bruised or as if someone has given me a hefty kick with a concrete filled boot.

I'm assuming its due to the bike/saddle, but surely it would have cleared by now ?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcome.

You'll get used to it again, pain comes back when you stay off the bike for any length of time.

Have you checked your seat position, not to far forward for you. Also I'm assuming that you are using padded shorts/pants etc. I disagree with Adam as my seats fairly comfy and I have not experienced any problems like you have. Good luck with it.

I did 1000 miles before I sold my Brooks and bought a Specialised Body Geometry saddle which was comfortable from mile one.

Brooks saddles do need to be "broken in" and a certain amount of discomfort in your pelvic bones region would be expected, especially if you haven't ridden for a long time. In fact that is true regardless of how much you have ridden before or what kind of saddle make/type. I would have thought, normally, any discomfort would have cleared up by now, so maybe you've overdone it a bit. Check that your seat height is correct and that you aren't rolling your hips when you pedal - you're leg should be slightly bent with the heel resting on the pedal at it's lowest point. Do that with both legs in case one is shorter than the other.

I have just spotted this .And despite all the good advice on here .As a senior member i can assure you .The saddle will never suit you .

What i suggest is that you try a Halfords cheepo .And to help you out .Please post to me your second hand Brooks saddle .And i will try over the next twenty years to break it in for you .

I would not think of taking any money for this service but a donation for some bum cream will not go amiss also .

Many thanks in anticipation .

Thanks for your helpful reply.
Are you sure you don't mind, it is the less popular titanium version.

I decided to have my GP check me out yesterday and he believes it's nothing more than bruising to the bone, which will clear - eventually

The next obvious question I suppose musst be....do you use padded short/longs? That would solve the problem. Shorts/longs and their padding are the one bit of clothes kit that it's best not to skimp on, for obvious reasons.

I'd never used cycling shorts previously but after the pain I picked up a cheapo pair and they made a big difference to my comfort. Trouble is, the damage had been done by then.
What would your recommendations be for good shorts/longs ?

It's worth getting a good quality pair next time, as they are probably the most important component on your bike after the saddle. And if you are someone who buys a Ti-railed Brooks, you clearly understand the difference between price and value.

Trouble is, the damage had been done by then.
Just a bit of bruising. It will go. The saddle will get more and more comfortable, too.
