STI annoyance....

Had the serious irritation of having to adjust the cable to get the front mech to either go from middle to higher or middle to lower without rubbing, the balance of changing without either not working or rattling the chain continually is impossible even when the bike is on the stand and fine adjustment of front mech height and angle is easily done..

I have 8 speed Sora, it works ok at the back and I want to stick with 8 speed but the front changer is really silly as you cannot fine adjust the lever hence the faffing about with adjuster. I was doing a mountainous ride yesterday and got really cheesed off with it.

Other bits involved are [ new ] LX front mech and Raceface triple mtb chainset.

Which left hand levers have the ability to be moved to compensate for this? I will try and find a separate left hand shifter if anyone can recommend a sensible one to solve the problem, I don't really care if it doesn't match very well

I suggest that you need a small barrel adjuster in your cable.

I have an adjuster on the top cable guide which is easily reachable and adjustable while on the move, but what I want is to be able to move the gear lever slightly to stop chain rub, the Sora does not have this facility unfortunately... some has told me that some do but not which ones.
