i would look in the 2nd market as loads of people buy a bike ride it twice and then decide they dont like road bikes , so bargains to be had for sure

^^ That's a good choice if it's the right size for you.

Otherwise, if you want to buy new, what is your budget like? Typically, good quality entry-level road bikes start at around £500. There are the usual suspects of Giant, Trek, Cannondale and Specialized, but there are other excellent brands coming through, such as Cube and Felt.

Pay attention to sizing, as how well it fits you is very important on a road bike. Don't buy the wrong size even if it's a bargain, or it can be torture.

Btwin from decathlon although the styling is pretty dull imo you do get a decent frame and components for the money

Seems to be what he wants. Nowt wrong with starting with a road bike if going to be riding on roads :smile:

leisure lakes have a few good entry level bikes on sale too,Cube Peloton Pro £549,Cannondale Synapse Claris £499,Trek 1.1 £500,Specialized Allez £480,worth a look
