I had a bit of a tumble yesterday - slippery road I think. On checking over the bike the only real damage apart from a couple of scratches was the front outer gear cable has a near right-angle bend in it. I've straightened it out as best I can and the inner runs through it smoothly but it's now a weak point?
I was going to remove and replace but I can't for the life of me see how to remove it from the shifter. I'm used to Shimano shifters and this is my first experience with SRAM. It seems that the shifter has to be removed from the bars to be able to get at the screws to remove the cover. Is that right? Seems odd that you'd need to remove grips and brake levers to get at it because you'd have to do the same for the inner.

Any ideas?

You're correct in your assumptions about having to dismantle the setup to get at the cable outer. That's typical of SRAM. It's a right royal PITA, and if you're not careful the assembly will explode in a shower of springs, grommets and grub screws. There are some good guides on YouTube et al.

Thanks.
I'm off on Holiday tomorrow so when it will have to wait 'till I come back. I'll probably take it off and let my LBS do it.
