Have ordered a 29er MTB to go with the roadie..will make life easier if I take the kids out for a ride etc.
Have a full Sram X5 set up on the new bike..coming from a Shimano only user before..what differences will I see and need to know about before hitting the trails?

Can't speak to x5, but don't think it makes a lot of difference on a flat bar bike (unlike on a roadbike where the shifting mechanism is different to shimano - double tap)

I run SRAM XX1 on my MTB. You should expect poor customer service if things go wrong. The shifting is fine but the feel of the components and trigger switch is that of cheap plastic.

Whilst I know Mr H has had a very bad experience with a new Sram product and their customer service, my experience of their warranty on a broken road shifter was faultless with a replacement provided within the week.

X3 and X4 on my kids bikes and the stuff works perfectly, takes abuse and the X4 has been pushed in mucky stuff. Needs no more than cleaning and has been 'fettle' free.
