I've changed my chain, I've changed and swapped my cassette (to 11/32  from 12/27)- which necessitated a change of rear mech - also done.

It all runs nicely and smoothly, shifting easily .... except ...

... the 34T chainring is knackered :cursing:. It's slipping on almost all gears when I put down some weight (not even enough to be called 'power') and is just about manageable by pulling up on the pedals, not pushing down. Whatever, I need to change the 34T chainring .

As far as I can see, with a quick look , I might be able to undo a few screws to remove the inner 34T ring and replace it with a new one.

My questions ...
- is it really that simple to change ?
- stick with SRAM (Inner 34T chainring £18.89 from PBK)
- use another brand ? (would need to be cheaper ;))

First 200km of the year in 12 days time, so need a working bike, in addition to some kms in the legs ... :bicycle:, so assistance .... 'pressing' ! ^_^

Thanks.

5 chainring bolts, remove outer and slip off inner over crank, slip on new inner, put on outer, align and tighten. Shouldn't be any more difficult than that. If the inner won't come off you might need to remove the crank but probably not.

Sure it's the inner that's worn, chain length correct. Does it do it on all rear sprockets?

I'm pretty sure it's the inner, as the chain length is fine. It does it on most sprockets of the new casette - and I wasn't too keen on trying them all, as it is a bit disconcerting when it goes . It wasn't doing it on the outer (50T) ring.

Thanks Crackle

The outer might be in a similar state you know. Because the chain wraps more it probably won't slip but it will wear your chain and sprockets quicker if it is as worn as the inner.

Aye - but I reckon/know I haven't used the outer anything like as much - hence the switch to 11-32 !

I've ordered an inner from PBK and it hs been posted already
