Folks,

I'm looking for some advice.

Just bought a Cube Agree SL (http://www.cube.eu/en/road/pro-series/agree-sl/) and am very happy with it.
However, I'm finding a bit tough on the steeper inclines with my Ultegra setup as I only have a 12-25 cassette/triple chainset.

I was considering the SRAM PG 1050 12-32 cassette as an alternative (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-pg1050-10-speed-cassette) but wanted to know if it would work with my current Ultegra setup (without having to change anything else, preferably).

Chainset: Shimano Ultegra FC-6703 Hollowtech II 52x39x30T
Front Mech: Shimano Ultegra FD-6703BL triple
Cassette: Shimano Ultegra CS-6700 12-25T, 10-speed
Rear Mech: Shimano Ultegra RD 6700GS
Levers: Shimano Ultegra ST-6703 10-speed

Kind regards
D

The 52 x 32 combination might be a bit much for your rear derailleur to cope with. I believe the official number is max 28 teeth on the rear.

Also.....you will prob need to add extra links to lengthen your chain. Perhaps get a 12-28 casette? A low gear of 30x32 is really really low anyway unless you're planning on climbing brick walls.

You will need new chain & rear mech for sure.

a 28 on the back will be fine with the rear mech, may need a new chain.

I could understand if you were planning on cycling in the alps but frankly unless you have some health problems, push a bit harder.

Sorry, but that's quite condescending and not really helpful to the op. Surely we should be helping people to get out of their cars and onto their bike regardless of fitness and ability.

Go for gearing that helps you to enjoy your riding and if you need to replace your rear mech then a sram x5 or x7 will do the job nicely, without being too expensive, coupled with the cassette you want to install.

Remember we aren't all hardcore!

Don't think this is true. I believe SRAM mechs aren't compatible with the ops Shimano Levers. I think it would need a Shimano MTB mech.

Its got nothing to do with being hard core, fit, fat or whatever.
Did you actually look at the picture, its a lovely racing bike and while I wouldn't assume it was only for racing, I did assume anyone who owned it would be aiming to use it in a manner that it was made for. e.g. get fitter and enjoy its qualities

I had hoped my comments would have been taken as persuasion in the style of, ' Go on, You will be surprised what you can do and then it will get easier'

I did cover myself with the comment about 'health' or was that too much for your sensitive nature as well.

My advice on the question was concise and correct

Can you expand on your thinking behind your advice?

Apart from the fact that those mech's come in 2 different arm lengths, confusing not to suggest a size to a newbie, but they are not compatible anyway.

That's really helpful.

Go on Deefex, change the casette to 12/28 it will make just enough difference for you I am sure

Thanks for the advice folks.

No offence taken from the 'push harder' comment either - it's always an option I guess :-)
