Squeaky V-Brakes (customer friendly method)

I have a customer asking what they can do for squeaky V-Brakes. They're mechanically inept so I can't just say "point the front in".

I have heard people advocate sanding the blocks slightly to roughen the surface. Has anyone tried this?

Nah, toe in is the only way

I have used a sharp knife, like a Stanley knife to trim the rear of the block a little. But it still requires the blocks to be taken off in the first instance.
 
Thanks for the thoughts. The problem is that this client has various Psycholoigical issues, and one is that they think everyone is watching them all the time: they're convinced that their brakes make car drivers jump and nearly caused an accident.
They also have a tendency to the dramatic...
