You'd be looking at around £100 to have frame enamelled one colour. More if it's a flam or metalllic colour.

If you want to do it on the cheap, go for powder coating instead. It's cheaper and tougher, and can look very nearly as good. That'll run to roughly £50 for a frame.

If you're tempted to spray it yourself, go for it, but be warned that it's not easy to do right, and the finish won't be as nice or last as long as stoved enamel or powder coat, and rattlecan enamel could end up costing you as much as a pro powder coat anyway.

It can be done at home on a budget but as uncle Hil advises, it will never be as good as a pro job. A lot depends on the frame and what you want it for. If you just want to tidy up an old hack bike, just sand off the worst of the rust, a quick coat of Jenolite or similar on the rusty spots and brush on a coat of enamel paint.

You can achieve very good results with rattle cans but it will always be prone to chipping and getting the frame prepared in the first place can be time consuming, especially if you have ornate lug work to work around. Many pound shops now stock rattle cans to keep costs down if you're not worried about the exact colour.
